Shocking!

Shocking Cats!

May this serve as good warning that no cat should be trusted.

My particles feel funny.

LHC - Oh, my!Are your innards feeling a little fiery today? No worries, it's just Cern flipping the switch to recreate the aftermath of the Big Bang.

Nothing major.

The eye of Helix

Eye NebulaWhile I have no reason to feel this way (or do I?), I love the idea of an eye floating in space.

There's references to this one as the "Eye of God," but it's not spiritual for me - just cool looking.

And just to emphasize my geekiness, I confess to having a variety of photos from Hubble framed and hanging in my home office. (G)eek!

Aliens seek final Potter

UFOs over the UK

At the end of July there were multiple UFO sightings in England. Lots of eyewitnesses and photos.  Seems legit, no? I missed the story when it was fresh thanks to my low-input vacation, but I see there was lots of buzz on Digg and various blogs.

Adding a laugh to the news article is a comment by Reg, who smartly concludes the aliens only came for the last Harry Potter book. Perhaps it was a failed distraction created by another publishing house?

The children come out at night

There's something hinky about my neighbors. Every evening after dusk, rain or shine, the kids come out to play. They are from three different houses and range in age from 6 to 10(ish). There's four to six kids playing at one time, depending on who comes out.

Spring, summer, fall - it's the same routine. The kids come out to play in the winter too but not every night. I guess the cold keeps them in. Not the dark.

Fall and spring aside, it's bright outside until at least 9pm at the height of summer - yet the kids are nowhere to be seen all evening then come out after sunset. I don't believe any of the kids are allergic to the sun because they come out during the day.

Tonight they came out again right after sunset despite the fact that it was raining.

Another neighbor and I were talking about this a few weeks ago and asked each other why we never asked one of the parents. We decided the answer would be too boring.

I'm filing this one under aliens. Hey, you never know.

history channel invaded by aliens!

spending my sunday home achy and icky with a cold, listening to the rain outside and watching tv. today the sci-fi channel is doing its best imitation of the history channel -- invaded by aliens. the experts (NASA helps the sci-fi channel!) are searching for answers on various in/famous incidents, including Kecksburg and Rendlesham. I love this stuff - even with the overly-earnest bryant gumbel hosting.
