Foursome

From my feeds, tweets and emails today, several blog-worthy bits:

Arrested Development - DVD cover (season 1)- Arrested Development the movie! Yes, go buy the DVDs now.

- Tastespotting.com Share and browse pictures of food. Tasty - and I finally have an excuse for snapping shots at restaurants.

- Dr. Horrible Joss Whedon, Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion. Hello, July 15!

- MyGallons.com For those of you who will be sitting home all summer, pre-purchase gas at today’s prices and avoid increases, they say…

Planes, trains and automobiles...

The highways and costal routes of Florida were jammed with vacationers this past week. The three airports I've had the pleasure of visiting in the last two weeks have been similarly jammed. Crazy security lines – and booking hotels hasn't been easy, either. And my God, have you experienced the packed roads of northern Virginia on a Sunday afternoon recently?

Sure, gas prices totally friggen suck - but just who are these people the media tells us are cutting back on travel this summer? Maybe it's the time travelers.

One the edge

Random Beach Shot - Daytona, Florida

O Earth! Thy summer song of joy may soar
Ringing to heaven in triumph. I but crave
The sad, caressing murmur of the wave
That breaks in tender music on the shore

F*n meow

George Carlin - YouTube

George Carlin's "Fucking Meow" was my favorite joke for a stretch in the 80s. My (multiple) retellings were always slightly inappropriate, of course, since I was just a kid. But as a girl with a cat, I thought it was hilarious and very true.

The punch line is about 3 minutes into this video.

Vacation kitty

Slept in. Hung around the house. Dozed. Picnic lunch. Came in out of the rain. Thirty minute nap. Drinks, dinner, conversation. Twenty minute nap. Stretched out and stared at the TV. Bed soon.

No wonder cats are so damned content.

Something in the Air?

Buying this today was so wrong, but owning it feels so right.

Welcome to my geeked-up life.

Sit and spin

Hula Chair - Gadget UniverseAn article about the Hula Chair came through my news feed this weekend.

Intended to help you “exercise while you work,” the chair puts the sitter though fairly rigorous spinning. The kind where typing and drinking a glass of water doesn’t work as well as its marketers imagined – check out this clip from Ellen as well as an MSNBC reporter's tests.

Imagine some of your best (and worst) colleagues at their desks or in a conference room full of these babies conducting business as usual. Fan-freaking-tastic!

By the way, as someone who still loves the Tilt-a-Whirl at carnivals and is a practiced office chair twirler, I’d love the ride. But doesn’t the mechanized chair spinning reduce the actual, um. exercise? And I use that term loosely my friends.

Plaxo? No, plax you.

Damon, I don't know you yet Plaxo is letting me know it's your birthday this week. Are we separated by two degrees or three? More? To be honest, I do not care about your birthday but hope you have a good day just the same.

Plaxo, why do you spam me so? Your site claims I'll stay in touch with the people I care about. Yet, you spam my inbox with updates on strangers. It's a crappy experience.

Your email did push me to your Website, though, and I couldn't help but notice the distinct lack of female presence on your management team page. Coincidence? Probably not.

If you see a heat wave...

... should you wave back?

Seriously. And for those of you who asked, no, I'm not actually used to this because I'm from Florida. It was much cooler back home this weekend.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire.

I received this urgent weather alert first thing this morning:

EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON

I picked a bad week to give up air conditioning. The AC in my car is acting up. Over the hills and through the pea soup of humidity, it's off to the Ford dealer I go!

Fish -N- Booze

Fish-N-Bozze, Jefferson NJ

I snapped this driving down Hwy 15 in Jefferson, NJ a couple of weeks ago.

Imagine the end of that namestorming session: "For chrissakes, Tony, we only serve fish and booze!"

And so it went...

Nothingness

"I did nothing. I did absolutely nothing, and it was everything that I thought it could be." I salute you Peter Gibbons!

I stupidly left Office Space off my list of rewatchable movies. I caught half on Sunday afternoon as I blissfully did my own form of nothing, including designing a blog for a friend, getting my hair done, and eating a delicious grilled cheese on oatmeal bread.

True nothingness is not easy to achieve.
