Geeking on Harry

Get Fuzzy - July 30

Saw Order of the Phoenix at the end of vacation. Having read the last chapter and epilogue of the final book beforehand, the movie, for me, played like an interstitial in its plotting, certainly not length, making me wonder why the adult book fans even care to see the movies. Especially since the movies don't stay true to the books.

Oh, I'll spare the spoilers, but I absolutely adored the series ending. The end and the beginning of Sorcerer’s Stone are the only parts of the series I've read, but I so love what Potter has done for kids and reading. And book-shy adults, for that matter.

Back to the present

Sunset in Bar Harbor

Vacation was long, lovely and relaxing. I'm still quite mellow after kissing friends goodbye, arriving home, running errands, unpacking, and catching up on email, photos and social spaces. Conan is fine but hasn't stopped talking. He apparently had an adventurous two weeks with Nicole. I haven't truly tackled work email yet, I'll save that special activity for the office tomorrow.

Missed you Bloggy, friends and passerby. XOXO

OOTO BBS TTYL

Alright kids, I'm out of here. Vacation has arrived! I may or may not blog over the next two weeks. I'm leaning towards "not" but the ocean, fresh air and... huh? See you in a week or two!

(And if you don't know the shorthand, the post title means: Out of the office, be back soon, talk to you later!)

7-Eleven-07

The Simpsons do 7-Eleven7-Elevens were giving out free slurpees to celebrate today's date. The DJ on the way home was suggesting a multi-stop approach to take advantage. Just what everyone needs.

Love The Simpson's ad campaign, especially the 7-11 store makeovers, like the one Chris snapped for ComicsAlliance.com.

I hope FOX doesn't screw up the movie.

Vacation packmania

Big Bertha the two-week superbag!Top 10 gripes of summer travel:
1. Packing enough - but not too much - for two weeks
2. Helping someone pack who's back home... 800 miles away
3. Keeping an eye on the luggage... hoping it travels with us
4. Unpacking when we arrive
5. Not having enough hangers or drawers to fully unpack
6. Re-packing at the end of vacation
7. Finding room to pack all the new stuff
8. Buying a new carry-on to hold extra items
9. Slowly unpacking for three days once I'm home
10. Doing it all over again the following week for another two-week trip!

Note the theme? But, as mom would say, we should all have such worries.

Vacation ~minus 4 days and counting.

Tanknorati... again

Technorati is wonky again. I clicked over tonight and I've lost two authority points, back down to 18 from 20, when it should have been more like 22 to begin with. While relatively insignificant, I know people who check - and often share - their rank on a daily basis. And here I am bitching about missing sites. Stop the madness!

Loserpalooza

Loserpalooza - Get Fuzzy 2007With lollapalooza meaning extraordinarily impressive, Loserpalooza is a perfect title: Rob, Bucky and Satchel are the most impressive losers ever drawn.

248pagespalooza. Woo!

Be nice to fish

Get Fuzzy - July 8, 2007
Conan doesn't care about the welfare of fish, either. Must be a cat thing.

Zombie apocalypse

When the zombies eventually attack, my odds for survival are almost 50/50:
Zombies!
Regardless, I'll apparently blog before joining the brain-munchers:
Blog addiction

(Nice way to drive traffic to your commercial site, Mingle2. App-trickery!)

Yippi-kay-ay!

IMDB.com - Die Hard 4
Listen, I know it's been almost 20 years since the original, but Live Free or Die Hard is a really fun movie. Sure, it helps to be a fan of the series and the cast (including my fave ad guy), but I haven't enjoyed the movies this much for months. And did I mention Kevin Smith costars as a hacker named Warlock? Perfect.

An awesome new local theater with comfy tall rocking seats made for good bopping and dodging with the action on screen, too. Seriously.

Rated G for every-freaking-one

Just checked my blogroll sites and discovered blog rating via SmartCookie (PG) and Six (NC-17, duh). My blog? G-rated.

I was only chastised for:
* murder (2x)
* hell (1x)

Hm. May I introduce you to my blog category, random bullshit? Also, a quick search for fun words previously used here (tsk, tsk):

G-Rating* fuck
* crap
* bitch

While my matinee rating is cute, the robots clearly have issues reading Movable Type.

A month of sundaes

SundaeI received a random email today proclaiming July national ice cream month.

Apparently we now have Hallmark holidays for the dairy industry. Or it's a celebration of frozen foods. Maybe it's dentists.

Tasty days, nonetheless.

Family anniversary

Pink rose - photoToday marks the first anniversary of Rose's death. We were on vacation in Maine when she passed and my mom insisted we stay there, to the point of not even calling right away. She’d been taking care of her sister for almost two years by that point, and we were as prepared as possible, including a memorial service.

Now mom's dealing with her own mother's failing health.

Mortality can be a real bummer.
